Our 'Catch & Release' Incentive:
Should you wish to share your bounty with friends and family back
home, our staff will gladly clean, pack and freeze your fish. For
those special guests who are both lucky and generous, we offer a
unique reward. If you catch and release a Chinook salmon over 50
pounds, the Lodge will offer you one free return trip the following
season. We encourage guests to practice catch and release in order to
help in the conservation of this precious resource. As part of this
effort, guests make a conservation contribution of US$150 per person
that goes towards the cultural access fee, local bear and stream
conservation as well as a well-known killer whale adoption program. If
you are torn between sharing the taste of salmon and caring for the
environment, we suggest that you take home some delicious, fresh or
smoked commercially-caught salmon. It will be our pleasure to have it
ready and waiting at your departure gate at the airport.

The Quest
for the Kermode Bear. Share the magical experience of observing the
rare and mystical Spirit bear. Isolated for thousands of years on
remote Princess Royal Island, this small community of 'white' black
bears, also known as the spirit or ghost bear by the First Nation
people, inhabit some of the most pristine areas left on earth. Native
legend tells the story of the raven, the creator, who came to Princess
Royal Island and made every tenth bear white to remind us of the ice
age and he designated this special place to be the home of the spirit
bear forever. Only very few people have the chance to see this rarest
of North American mammals and for those who do it is believed to bring
good fortune. King Pacific Lodge has developed Kermode bear watching
trips in conjunction with bear biologists and during the month of
September small groups are able to take part in "The quest for the
Kermode Bear" led by an experienced guides.
Whale- & Orca-Watching:
Majestic
Orcas and Humpback whales feed and spend time in the rich waters of
Whale Channel in front of the Lodge. Upon advance notice and depending
on dates, guests have the opportunity to study these majestic animals
in the company of whale researchers located at Cetacea Laboratory, a
15-minute boat ride away.
Nature Cruises:
A gentle introduction to the splendors of
the Northwest coast…Go for an outing on our 31' cabin cruiser to see
sea lions, Orcas, eagles, deer, otters, bears and whales.
Phosphorescent night cruises are also offered.
The waters
around King Pacific Lodge are home to a wealth of creatures. Our
nature cruises can introduce you to the resident pod of killer whales
that swoop and glide through our waters, the eagles that hover high in
the blue sky, or the bear that watches us from an island as the boat
goes by. Our guides will venture out with you on a wildlife excursion
in one of the Lodge's cruisers. You'll visit rocky headlands, an
intricate network of coves, inlets and bays and secret hiding places
of creatures in the Princess Royal Island archipelago. You'll soon see
that this region abounds, not just with hundreds of species of fish,
but with Stellar sea lions, playful dolphins and porpoises, migrating
killer, gray and humpback whales, bald eagles swooping for fish, and
year-round residents like deer, wolves and bear. Phosphorescent
microorganisms also proliferate in the waters around the lodge,
glowing and emitting flashes of light that make a night cruise under
the stars doubly spectacular.
