AMENITIES PAGE - FAIRMONT ORCHID - KOHALA COAST - BIG ISLAND

The Big Island of Hawaii is ripe for exploration with endless opportunities to enjoy the natural wonders and experience the 'Aloha spirit'. This lush, tropical island is the largest and most diverse in the chain. Home to the world's largest, active volcanoes, diverse rainforest ecosystems and a compelling culture, you can explore the ocean on a scuba diving excursion or set the stage for an extravagant evening with a night of live theater. Whether you choose to stay at the resort or explore the island, there are limitless activities and attractions.

The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii's full-service concierge desk can assist you on your 'voyage of discovery'. A variety of on- and off-property excursions include waterfall hikes, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, kayak adventures, star gazing, mountain biking, or simply marvel at the world's most active volcano, to name just a few of Hawaii's many adventures.

The Possibilities Are Nearly Endless!!

Deep Sea Fishing
Strapped into the fighting chair and with your heart pounding, you'll begin the fight of your life with one of nature's wildest creatures! Who'll win the battle of wits and strength - you, or the acrobatic billfish? Your Captain will give you the choice of doing all of the angling yourself, but the crew will lend a helping hand at your request.

Evening at Kahua Ranch
The tour includes a fully narrated trip along Highway 19 climbing to the town of Waimea, then Highway 250 through the rolling hills and breathtaking scenery of the Kohala Mountains. History comes alive as we share stories of the area, the introduction of cattle in 1794, and the arrival of the Paniolos.

The evening includes an open bar consisting of: local Kona beer, wine, soft drinks. A ranch style barbeque includes: sirloin steak, chicken, local potatoes, corn on the cob, baked beans, salad, coffee, and dessert.

Entertainment: Paniolo pictures with our working ranch horse; dinner with the owners; guitar playing Paniolos share their colorful past through music. After dinner you'll have a chance to participate in horse-shoe throwing, roping, darts, and other fun activities. Roast your own marshmallows to make s'mores over a crackling campfire. After dinner try your hand at branding! Enjoy the night sky by peering through a deluxe celestial telescope and understand why the Big Island is the best place for stargazing.

Golf Courses
In the world of golf, the Big Island is regarded as the pinnacle of playgrounds, a land of uncommon beauty, startling diversity, and welcoming weather. Here, alongside The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii, is an award-winning 36-hole championship golf course.

The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii provides a beautiful and challenging course for pros and amateurs alike. The resort is adjacent to the award-winning Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Course, offering 36 holes of continuous play, and is consistently lauded as one of the world's top golf resorts by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine. The course has spectacular scenery with ocean views and green fairways patterned with black lava.

The Francis H. I'i Brown Course opened in 1981, and has secured its place among the finest courses in the world. Golf Magazine called it 'one of the most breathtakingly beautiful seaside golf courses in the world' and awarded it a gold medal as one of this country's finest golf resort courses.

The course was designed to have two distinct 18-hole complexes, the south and north course, each capturing unique characteristics of the landscape. Both courses will satisfy every level, appealing to the recreational golfer and ready to be tightened up to meet the demands of tournament play.

The South Course - Par 72
The South Course is built on the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow, geologically a relatively young flow. The resort course snakes through stark, rugged, a'a lava. Volcano goddess Pele reigns supreme on this course. If she favors you, balls hit into the lava will miraculously bounce back into the fairway. If not, kiss them good-bye. Aside from great golf, this challenging course offers the golfer a range of mountain and ocean views and was home of the Senior Skins Game for 10 years.

The North Course - Par 72
The North Course, although a resort course, is excellent for tournament play. Built on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku lava flow on which the south course lies, it is characterized by rolling terrain and kiawe (mesquite) groves. Trees often come into play on this course. A 230-acre protected archaeological district touches the northern boundary of the course. Herds of feral goats frequent the entire course, moving from hole to hole throughout the day.

Several holes are contiguous with the ocean and water hazards and are managed by providing golfers as many as five different tee positions, to provide a wide range of options in meeting the challenging conditions.

$120.00 USD daily.  Golf cart is included with greens fees.
