Grill in the Beach Tree crescent, this pool is heated for guests'
comfort. Attendants offer poolside beverage service and Evian spritz.
A whirlpool is nearby.
Jack Nicklaus signature Hualalai Golf Course
Like all the other splendid
amenities of the Resort, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus designed Hualalai
Golf Course has been crafted with extreme sensitivity to the land.
Winding over 7,100 yards, this carefully groomed course begins in a
lush kipuka (oasis) and then flows across brilliant green fairways
contoured against black lava. Finally, the course returns to the
ocean, where the finishing holes capture the drama and the beauty of
direct seaside golf. After an exhilarating game, relax in the
clubhouse where tropical refreshments, ocean views and a
club-away-from-home experience await you.
Tennis
As a primary feature of the Hualalai Sports Club & Spa, The Hualalai
Tennis Club offers eight Rebound Ace surface courts, four of which are

Cultural Center
Ka‘upulehu Cultural Center offers interactive programs and
interpretive resources and displays to create a living picture of
Hawai’i’s environment, culture, history, traditions and arts.
The experience begins with a map of the islands of Polynesia inlaid
into the wooden floor. Original paintings by Hawaiian artist and
historian Herb Kawainui Kane depict inhabitants in a typical coastal
Hawaiian village
Tools used for making kapa (bark cloth), pounding poi, canoe building,
fishing and weaving are on display. Recordings from the 1940s to the
present show the evolution of Hawaiian music from the earliest
‘ukulele to steel guitar and slack key. Videos are available, from
voyaging canoes and marine life to hula and volcanoes. In addition,
guests can explore the Resort’s own natural and historic resources
through guided trail walks. Staff can provide Center tours and
cultural information
Daily classes and exhibits enhance the cultural experience of
Ka‘upulehu and bring to life its "sense of place." Some of these
include:
Voyaging by the Stars
Tuesday evenings
Polynesians used the stars, moon and sun, as well clouds, currents,
migratory and weather patterns, to navigate the Pacific in sturdy
canoes – and, in the process, discovered literally hundreds of
archipelagos. At Ka‘upulehu, overlooking Kuki‘o Beach, is the only
star compass on the island at this time. This is a chance for all ages
to sample what it might have been like to be a Polynesian explorer.
Guests meet in the Cultural Center
‘Ukulele Lessons
Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays
Although identified with Hawai‘i, the ‘ukulele originated in Portugal,
fashioned after the Spanish guitars of the vaqueros (cowboys). While
the ‘ukulele is relatively easy to play, it can be tough to master.
Here, you can begin by learning a simple tune through demonstration
and participation.
Hawaiian Language
Sundays and Fridays
Although it may sound intimidating, the Hawaiian language contains
just five vowels and eight consonants. This class helps visitors
understand the origins and basic pronunciation of the language. Guests
will learn translations of commonly encountered words and share the
legends of place names such as Ka‘upulehu
Natural History
Saturdays and Sundays
This program explains the concept of the ahupua‘a (a land area usually
running from mountain to the sea) and the basics of community life
within it. Learn about Hualalai’s geography and environment - from
lava tubes and streams to the dry-land forest, native birds and
animals
Kupuna Program
Kupuna (Hawaiian elders) are available once per week to teach and
share cultural knowledge in flower lei making, Hawaiian throw net
making, `ukulele lessons, hula lessons, `ipu (gourd) making and
lauhala weaving
Other Classes
The program changes frequently. Examples of other classes may include
Hawaiian quilting, fish feeding, keiki canoe and fishing, feather art,
lei making, pond and cultural tours. Consult the Cultural Center staff
for the latest details
Footnote
Most programs are complimentary although a nominal fee for supplies
may apply in select classes. There is also a charge for off-site
cultural tours.
Classes and programs may change without notice. Some classes may have
age restrictions. Guests under 12 years must be accompanied by an
adult while visiting the Cultural Center.
